Taking a stroll through the Royal Parks of London

Most people associate London with being one of the more compact cities in the world, but there are still plenty of open spaces to enjoy while you are on your vacation. There are over 5000 acres of parks to be explored in London, so you should not have a hard time finding a spot to stretch your legs. After you have walked through the various museums and pubs throughout the day, it’s always nice to unmind in a field of grass or on a park bench. The reason that you should stick to the Royal parks is that they are in the best locations and they tend to be the largest parks in the entire city.

Hyde Park is the most well-known park in London, and it is actually one of the largest parks that you will find in the entire city. You can find Serpentine Lake in this park, and its total size is roughly 350 acres. There is a bridge in the middle of the lake that actually splits the divide between Hyde Park and Kensington Gardens. Kensington Gardens is another Royal Park, but it is actually a bit smaller at around 275 acres.

Another park that you may want to take a look at while you are in the city is Bushy Park. It is 1100 acres large, which makes it the second largest park in the London area. There is plenty of wildlife to be found in this park, and it may make you feel like you are out in the sticks. This park was actually the home for the planning stage of the D-Day invasion. Field hockey was also invented in this park in the late 1800s.

St. James Park is only 58 acres in size, but it is still one of the more popular parks in London. You can find this park in Westminster, and it was actually started as a zoo back in the year 1603. Anything from elephants to camels were kept in this park, as it was home to some of the most exotic animals on the planet. These animals are no longer found in the park today, and this park is quite different from the one that became popular all those years ago. This park is still worth a visit on your travels through London, but you have to remember that there are a good number of different Royal Parks to look at on your journey.
