Whether you’re into comedy, music, food, or just a good dance, London has you covered.

So clubbers in London have a lot to choose from and there’s never any shortage of places to dance and drink the night away.

But every night out is not without its annoyances. Ladbrokes Bingo recently did a survey, asking revellers what they find most irritating on a night out.

When it comes to things that can put a bit of a dampener on a night out, the girls find getting a ladder in their tights before the night’s even started pretty annoying; in fact, 30.80% marked this down as their number one irk. At a close second is getting toilet tissues stuck to those expensive shoes, with 26.30% lamenting at this less than sanitary incident.

Going somewhere where there’s no chance of bumping into an ex got 13.30% vote regarding what makes a great night. 30.45% however, agreed that no encounters with sleazy men are the main appeal.

In fact, some ladies were so put off by the toilet tissue and risk of sleazebags that they preferred to opt for a night in with the girls. When asked if they prefer a night out or staying in, 66.25% said they would rather stay in and play bingo or watch films with mates then brave the cold.

Is there a certain age when you stop wanting to go out and get plastered? Apparently so; when asked if at a certain point in their life, partiers prefer dinner parties and home entertainment, 57.10% agreed and only 12.70% disagreed. 30.20% were on the fence about that one.

A good night out is always one to remember, but it looks like the cosiness of home and good company is appreciated just as much!

London over Christmas is a brilliantly exciting place to be, with festive sights and sounds all around you. From the breathtaking lights of Regent Street, and the scent of chestnuts roasting over open braziers in one of the capital’s open markets, to the temptations offered by the window displays in the big stores, all is glitter and glamour. Sometimes though the crowds of Christmas shoppers and the pace of life in the metropolis can just get to be a bit overwhelming. If you are feeling that you might like to take a break for a day and explore the attractions offered by places close by, here are some pick-me-up suggestions:

Brighton; ‘London By The Sea’

Easily reached from the capital either by train or by driving you can hire a car from a from central London it’s only a 1 hour-a-half drive. Brighton offers all the attractions of London, but in a much more compact package! It has the added lure of being beside the sea. The famous Lanes in Brighton, the little winding streets that were once the heart of the old fishing town, are now home to a host of small boutiques and provide endless opportunities for Christmas shopping.

Christmas in Brighton

Credit

The Artists’ Christmas Open Houses Festival invites you to visit individual artists’ studios and places of work, where you can view and buy original art, often at a fraction of the price that you might pay for an artwork from a Bond Street gallery. And when you have explored all that the town has to offer, you and the family will love to go ice skating in the evening, the rink illuminated by an array of colourful Christmas lights, with the gorgeous sugar-plum backdrop of Brighton Pavilion, and a meal at the Jamie Oliver restaurant on site to tempt you further.

Basildon Park, Berkshire

To sample the Dickensian delights of a traditional English Christmas, explore the festive events offered by the National Trust at its historic houses close to London. Basildon Park in Berkshire will be providing visitors with a “night before Christmas” experience. The curtains are drawn, candles lit, and you can wander through the house enjoying the atmosphere, the sights, sounds and smells. Outside, the woodland path is illuminated by twinkling Christmas lights, and if you are in need of refreshment after your walk, you can warm up with a glass of festive punch. For a spookier experience, Ham House in Richmond – reputed to be one of the most haunted houses in Britain – is inviting visitors to join the after-dark ghost tours of the historic house, with drinks and canapés included in ticket price. They may be needed to steady your nerves!

A Royal treat in Windsor

For a truly magical experience, Windsor has lots to offer visitors at all times of the year, but especially at Christmas. The younger members of the family will love the Reindeer Parade, with real reindeers and Santa on his sleigh. They might like to take breakfast with Santa (you need to book early, as this is a very popular event!), and the adults can enjoy a tour-hour evening tour of Windsor Castle, dramatically illuminated against the horizon at night. Tickets include a glass of mulled wine, and a 20% discount on gifts in the Royal Collection shop.

Reindeer Parade in Windsor with the main man.

Credit

Thoroughly refreshed by your break from the streets of London, you can now plunge back into the festivities, and enjoy all that the capital has to offer at Christmas.

A summer break for the family in the heart of the Midlands has the great advantage of offering such a wide range of attractions for children of every age that there is no risk that the English weather will dampen your holiday.

The location and comfort offered by your choice of hotel will help to make a real success of your summer city break, and of Birmingham hotels, the Millennium Copthorne offers the advantages of being close to the city centre, and an easy trip to the National Exhibition Centre.

Children love canals, and if the weather permits, take a stroll along the edge of the canal in the centre of Birmingham, and explore the shops, galleries and restaurants that now cluster along its banks. Continuing the watery theme, you will also find the National Sea Life Centre in this area, an impressive building designed by Norman Foster, which is currently offering free entry for children. If you would like to combine fine dining with exploring the city’s waterways, you can take a three-hour cruise on a luxury floating restaurant.

And if the kids haven’t lost their enthusiasm for boats after all that, you might like to take them to Cannon Hill Park, where you can hire a pedal boat to take them out on the lake, or walk through the woodland and wildflower meadows. Birmingham Nature Centre, a short walk from the park, offers a fascinating glimpse into the vital work that some zoos are now doing to breed and preserve endangered species.

If your enthusiasm is bargain hunting, then the converted Birds Custard Factory in Digbeth, not far from the notorious but now transformed Bull Ring, will provide you with hours of interest and fun. The site is now home to over five hundred artists and craftsmen, and in summer there is a weekly flea market. The summer holidays also see an influx of street entertainers, children’s theatre groups and activities, and ethnic food stalls.

And of course no trip to Birmingham is complete without a visit to Cadbury World, which includes the chance to create your own chocolate treat, Beanmobile trips for children, and a walk through the history of chocolate making, from the Aztec jungle to the opening of the first drinking chocolate shop by John Cadbury in Birmingham in 1824.

Most people associate London with being one of the more compact cities in the world, but there are still plenty of open spaces to enjoy while you are on your vacation. There are over 5000 acres of parks to be explored in London, so you should not have a hard time finding a spot to stretch your legs. After you have walked through the various museums and pubs throughout the day, it’s always nice to unmind in a field of grass or on a park bench. The reason that you should stick to the Royal parks is that they are in the best locations and they tend to be the largest parks in the entire city.

Hyde Park is the most well-known park in London, and it is actually one of the largest parks that you will find in the entire city. You can find Serpentine Lake in this park, and its total size is roughly 350 acres. There is a bridge in the middle of the lake that actually splits the divide between Hyde Park and Kensington Gardens. Kensington Gardens is another Royal Park, but it is actually a bit smaller at around 275 acres.

Another park that you may want to take a look at while you are in the city is Bushy Park. It is 1100 acres large, which makes it the second largest park in the London area. There is plenty of wildlife to be found in this park, and it may make you feel like you are out in the sticks. This park was actually the home for the planning stage of the D-Day invasion. Field hockey was also invented in this park in the late 1800s.

St. James Park is only 58 acres in size, but it is still one of the more popular parks in London. You can find this park in Westminster, and it was actually started as a zoo back in the year 1603. Anything from elephants to camels were kept in this park, as it was home to some of the most exotic animals on the planet. These animals are no longer found in the park today, and this park is quite different from the one that became popular all those years ago. This park is still worth a visit on your travels through London, but you have to remember that there are a good number of different Royal Parks to look at on your journey.

Battersea Park will give you more to look at than any other park in London. This may seem like a bold statement at first, but you will have no choice but to agree with it after you visit for the first time. There is a good amount of wildlife in the park, and it contains a lake that allows you to enjoy all aspects of nature. This is the place to go to in London if you would like to spend a day with the birds, tress and beautiful backdrops.

There is actually a zoo in this park, so this would be a perfect spot if you have kids with you on your travels. There is also a playground for toddlers, so there will be plenty of different things for your children to enjoy during the day. There is even an adventure park that closes around 6pm for and young ones who love to explore nature and see what the world has to offer.

There are plenty of different activities that you can enjoy at this park, and all of them will actually help you stay in shape. Jogging, tennis, cricket, football and rowing are just a few of the activities that people regularly enjoy in this park, and fishing is another popular option among those individuals who do not feel like breaking a sweat.

Although there are plenty of different activities to enjoy in the park, the main selling point here is the beautiful scenery. You don’t have to do anything but sit back and relax while you are here because there are plenty of different spots that turn out to be perfect for a leisure filled afternoon. Whether you are just taking in the trees, green fields and blue skies or noticing the plethora of various mammals, birds and other wild life, you will no doubt be able to use this park as a relaxing environment during your vacation.

One last bit of information to note about Battersea Park is that it is also filled with sculptures and other pieces of artwork that will be sure to take your breath away. If you are someone who enjoys artwork but does not like walking around those stuffy museums all day, then you should definitely take a visit to this park during your stay in the great city of London. There is nothing better than the combination of beautiful works of art and the great outdoors.

There is nothing more exciting in the city of London than going to a live football match. England is known for having the best football league in the world, and they prove that on a weekly basis in the form of their English Premier League fixtures. Although most people recommend that you go to a match at one of the larger clubs’ stadiums, the best matches to see are actually the smaller ones. If you are in London, the perfect stadium to visit is Craven Cottage because it is home to a quality football club that still has a rather small field.

Fulham FC play at Craven Cottage, and this stadium is one of the best kept secrets in London. You will notice that the stadium feels rather small compared to some of the larger stadiums you may have visited around the world, but the small stature of the stadium is actually an advantage. Since the stadium is rather small, it means that there are not a lot of bad seats in the house. In other words, you don’t have to worry about sitting up in the nose bleed section.

If you are going to see one of the bigger clubs play, such as Chelsea or Arsenal, you may want to make sure that you are on the bottom tier. To truly enjoy your football outing, you need to be as close to the action as possible. The reason that these stadiums are not made larger is that football is not really a game that you can enjoy by watching it from so far away. The best way to make sure that you get your money’s worth with a ticket is to be a few rows back in the bottom tier of the stadium.

If you want to see a top club play without spending a lot of money, then perhaps you should watch one of the larger clubs play at a smaller stadium. If you see a team like Chelsea play at Fulham, you can actually get a rather fine deal on the tickets. You could even sit in the first 10 rows on the stadium for a rather low price. This is the best way to enjoy a football math because you get to be literally a few feet away from some of the best footballers in the world. Seeing two top clubs is always going to come with a good bit of excitement, but there is nothing better than being so close to the action that you can smell the grass on the field.

Finding a romantic spot in London is rather easy these days because there are so many different beautiful locations to choose from. With all of the parks throughout the city and the Thames River to use as a backdrop, you have plenty of different options at your disposal. Whether you are meeting someone for a first date or celebrating a romantic getaway with a loved one, you should have no problem finding the perfect spot in London.

Primrose Hill is one of the finest sanctuaries in London, and it helps you get away from the intensity of everyday life in London. This hill will give you a rather different view of the city of London, as it sits roughly 80 meters above the city. This is the perfect spot for a relaxing date, and it helps you take all of the worries out of your head. Many writers have come here for inspiration in the past, including Paul McCartney and H.G. Wells. This hill will surely leave a lasting impact on your mind.

Thames Barrier Park is the perfect option if you do feel like climbing any hills today. This is a great spot for an afternoon picnic, as long as the London weather does not get in the way of your plans. This park also contains a fountain plaza that has 32 different water jets in it. This is lovely sight on its own, but it is simply a part of the overall atmosphere in this beautiful park. This would be a wonderful spot to take a loved one for a short walk after a small picnic. There is an extra feeling of happiness when you are at this location on a warm summer’s day.

One thing to remember when you are trying to find your perfect date location is that you should try to stick to the outdoors. Everyone knows that the weather in London can be a problem from time to time, but you should try to stay outside if you can. Everything is more pleasant when you are outdoors, so that can have a huge impact on your first date. Remember that openness is going to be the key to any relationship, and that includes the openness of the area where you have your first date. Don’t let yourself get dragged into a dreary old pub when you are trying to impress someone on your first date and are hoping that everything will go over well.

With London being the capital city of England, it is one of the most visited cities by travelers around the world. One of the main things that people like to see when they visit London is the Thames River. The Thames is the main river that runs through the center of London, and the river is the main reason as to why the city was built there in the first place. There is a very diverse group of people to be found in London, but sometimes you just want to get away from it all and stick with some wide open spaces. There are plenty of parks and other locations to explore in London, but nothing beats a cruise down the Thames when you are trying to enjoy the great outdoors.

Believe it or not, there are actually cruise liners that go down the Thames river so you can enjoy the city from a unique point of view. Not many people think of going down the Thames when they get to London because there are so many different museums and sites to see during the day. You should definitely take a bit of time out of your vacation to travel down the Thames because it gives you a perspective on the city that most people do not get to see.

One of the highlights of the cruise down the Thames is the Tower of London because this is one castle that has been able to stand the test of time in the middle of one of the largest cities on earth. There are many different sights to see along your journey down the Thames, such as the Tower Bridge and the Millennium Footbridge. These are the kinds of sights that you see in postcards that are sold in the local gift shops, so why not get a great view of them from the river? You can knock out a lot of the different sights in one day by taking a trip down the Thames and viewing everything from the eyes of a sailor.

The Thames River used to be used a main tool for trade and commerce, but it is now used for tourism and leisure more than anything else. There is no reason to ship certain items down the river anymore because there are plenty of better methods of shipping supplies and products to other parts of the city. Once you have finished your journey down the Thames, you can get back on your feet and start checking out the parts of the city that you cannot see from the Thames River.

The Bone-chilling History of the Tower of London

Contrary to its name, the Tower of London is actually a castle. It consists of several sections, the first of which was built in 1078 by William the Conqueror. Although it was built to be a home for the ruling royalty of the time, and has been, through the centuries, the home of the Crown Jewels, the Royal Mint and a record keeping office, its creepy history comes from the many people who were imprisoned within its walls.

It wasn’t until the 15th Century that the Tower of London’s history took this dark turn for the worst. In 1483 two princes: Prince Edward V and his younger brother Prince Richard were imprisoned and later murdered in part of the Tower by their Uncle, Richard III after the death of their father (and Richard III’s brother) King Edward IV. Young Prince Edward was too young to rule to country, so his Uncle took over and both Princes soon disappeared. Reportedly their bodies were found in 1674 by several men remodeling on the Tower, although the additional bodies of children have turned up through the centuries in 1789 and the 1990s. Without DNA and other evidence, it is hard to identify exactly who they are.

During the 16th Century, the Tower of London became known as a notorious prison. Many people who were proclaimed traitors to the crown were tortured and even put to death here, although it is important to note that only 7 public executions took place in the Tower of London itself. Most of them took place at Tower Hill, which is only a short distance away. This only counts the deaths of prisoners and traitors though, and not those who died of natural or not-so-natural causes within the Tower.

Two of the most well-known of these 7 executions were those of Anne Boleyn in 1536 and Lady Jane Grey in 1554. Anne Boleyn was the second wife of Henry VIII, who took over the Church of England in order to make his second marriage valid after the Catholic Church refused to recognize it. When, after three years of marriage she hadn’t given birth to son to carry on the throne, Henry declared her a traitor and sent her to the Tower of London. She was put on trial and then beheaded on the Tower Green around a month later. Lady Jane Grey was one of Henry VIII’s nieces. She was declared a threat to his chance to claim the throne, thanks to some deathbed maneuvering by Edward the VI. In order to eliminate her and her chance of gaining power, Henry VIII had her declared a traitor and sentenced her to death just like he did Anne Boleyn.

These are just a fraction of the many horrible things that have happened at the Tower of London since it was built over 900 years ago. It’s no wonder that it is considered one of the most haunted locations in the city.
